Steve Stewart: “As a long time resident of Killearn Estates – living less than a mile from the proposed location – I have a heightened interest in the park and I am concerned about the proposed park amenities. In my view, the park amenities – included in the original proposal – are too focused on baseball. The design includes four high school size baseball fields with light fixtures.”
Sources close to the Chiles football program have told Tallahassee Reports that Trey Pettis – the Chiles interim head football coach – has told players he has been put on leave and is not allowed to communicate with the team.
Tallahassee Police is investigating a serious crash on Ocala Road from 3:00 a.m. Saturday. One driver suffered from life-threatening injuries sustained in the crash. The driver and passenger of the second vehicle both suffer serious injuries.
Tallahassee Police is also investigating a homicide investigation from 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the 2700 block of North Monroe Street. It is unclear what led up to the shooting, but detectives said that a large crowd was gathered outside the Motel 6. No arrests have been made.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is defending former President Donald Trump after Trump was indicted last week by saying that the Department of Justice has been weaponized due to its political bias. “The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society,” DeSantis said. “We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation. Why so zealous in pursuing Trump yet so passive about Hillary or Hunter?”
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis made a campaign promise that he will restore the name of Fort Bragg in North Carolina after it was renamed to Fort Liberty. The renaming of the fort comes after numerous Confederate symbols and imagery have been renamed across the country. “And thank the people that have served there. And they’re proud of their service there. It’s an iconic name and iconic base. We’re not going to let political correctness run amok in North Carolina,” DeSantis said

At the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Tex., numerous Florida State runners performed well. Each of the Seminoles who competed in three of the four events that they had qualified for earned All-America honors and both the 4×100 relay team and triple jumper Jeremiah Davis earned visits to the awards stand for bronze medals.

Re: football and reading levels. Read articles on college football recruits/transfers/etc, there is rarely any mention of athletics. The goal is to get to the NFL, where they will hire people to read for them. Now, these students are not incapable of reading at grade level, it’s just that playbooks aren’t written at their grade level, and that’s all they are interested in reading. College programs provide tutors. I taught in a large HS in S FL, and there is pressure to pass key players regardless of class performance. That’s reality.

Lincoln’s plateform when he ran for president was to allow slave states to remain slave states. The War between the States began in 1861 but the Immacipation Proclamation wasn’t issued until 1863. The Immancipation Proclamation didn’t free all the slaves in the south and it did free any slaves in the north. The Immancipation Proclamation was a military decision to weaken the South. Less than 10 percent of Confederate soldiers owned slaves or came from slave owning families. The South believed if the joined the Union voluntarily they could leave voluntarily. The north controlled the congress and they put tariffs on Southern goods. Of course the truth doesn’t matter anymore.
We need to find out who thought it was a good idea to put the suspended football coach’s son in charge. Then fire that person.
What we need more than anything is a rule that says if only 49% of your students are able to read at their assigned grade level no football or any other games will be played until that number is in the 70-percentile range.
I know how crazy that must sound to most of you…
The $22M, or higher, NE park is not necessary, regardless of what is included in its ‘amenities’. The city and county have got to stop believing they are, somehow, a stimulus of the economy entity. This park and the ridiculous multi modal trail are but two examples.
