On Monday, September 4, the Big Bend Labor Chapter (BBLC) hosted an event to help veterans and their families who are experiencing homelessness at the American Legion Hall on Lake Ella Dr. However, comments from some local officials -including City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow – introduced politics to what was supposed to be a donation drive.

Tallahassee Police is investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian on Labor Day. The pedestrian was hit around 8:32 p.m. Monday evening at the intersection of Apalachee Parkway and Capital Circle Southeast. The man was transported to an area hospital where he eventually passed away. The driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
Tallahassee Police is investigating a shooting over the weekend on West Pensacola Street. It occurred at 8:30 p.m. on the 2200 block of West Pensacola Street. The victim was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
On Thursday September 7th at 8:30 a.m., the Tallahassee Growth Management Department will hold a Type A & Pre-Submittal meeting and address four projects, including the downtown Valencia Hotel project.

Florida Senator Rick Scott suggested that his challenge to Republican Leader Mitch McConnell was “rushed.” Scott also did not rule out another run for Senate leadership since McConnell has not suggested if he is going to leave.
Scott also called upon Florida lawmakers to fix Florida’s insurance market and that it is “bankrupting the state.” Earlier this year Scott said the insurance marketplace is a “disaster” and that Farmers Insurance leaving the state is a “wake up call.”
A Florida appeals court has tossed Florida’s recent congressional redistricting map from last year. Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd’s office has already announced an appeal. The judge who struck down the maps, Leon Circuit Judge Lee Marsh, said that the state failed to prove that the former Congressional District 5 was a “racial gerrymander.” The former district comprised Tallahassee’s southside, Gadsden County, and went all the way to northside Jacksonville.

After Florida State football’s decisive win over the LSU Tigers, quarterback Jordan Travis, wide receiver Keon Coleman, and offensive lineman Bless Harris were named ACC Players of the Week yesterday. Additionally, in the new AP Top 25, the Noles came in as No. 4 in the country.

@Little Flower — I’ve long maintained that the folks that present the weather (forecast) have absolutely no understand of visuals. There are some simple changes that would give the graphics a much superior at-a-glance impact on what’s really happening!
@Edward — I long for the old days when lawyers weren’t allowed to advertise. What we’ve got now is a system where entire too much money goes through lawyers whether it needs to or not. The billboard industry North of Orlando would dry up if not for the “Dan got me a crapload of money” ads. Oddly, none of the ads mention that their client deserved $5m, and once the lawyer got that judgement immediately took his 40% ($2M) cut, leaving the client with millions less than the lawyer had claimed was “deserved”!
@ David… the real problem with Florida’s Homeowners Insurance is not the Insurance Companies per say… it’s the DoWe, Screw’em, and How law firms of the world. No matter what our Governor and Legislators do, it will not be resolved until Tort Reform is allowed to play a role in the solution.

Not only is is Bankrupting the State, it is ALSO Bankrupting the Home Owners. Mine has Doubled this year.
