LOCAL SPORTS NEWS

Leon senior Patrick Koon has done it. The Stanford signee won his third straight state championship Friday morning, becoming just the sixth male ever from the state of Florida to win three straight cross country state titles.

While FSU football got the blowout win over North Alabama on Saturday, FAMU football got their own win. The Rattlers defeated Bethune-Cookman 24-7 in Orlando in The Florida Classic. The Rattlers’ next game is December 2 at 4:00 p.m. on ESPN2 in the SWAC Championship. FAMU is 10-1 with their lone loss to FBS USF Bulls.

Florida State baseball unveiled their 2024 schedule where they will host 34 games along with four neutral site games. Along with their slate of usual conference matchups, their nonconference foes include three games against Florida, along with Florida Gulf Coast, Michigan State, and Illinois.

In the third round of the NCAA Tournament, FSU soccer defeated the Texas Longhorns in blowout fashion 5-0. The Noles will face the Pitt Panthers in the next round.

FLORIDA NEWS

Florida lawmaker Rep. Tyler Sirois filed a bill that would ban lab-grown meat. Under HB 435, it would be illegal to manufacture, sell or distribute cultivated meat in Florida. Under the proposal, the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Services is authorized to adopt the rules.

The University of Florida chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine joined the ACLU in filing a lawsuit last week against State University System of Florida Chancellor Ray Rodrigues and Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration. The lawsuit was filed after the chancellor issued a memo on Oct. 24 condemning the chapter’s affiliation with the Operation Al-Aqua Flood, and calling for their deactivation.

A statewide NBC News poll recently found that Ron DeSantis public opinion numbers are at an all-time low. Only 27 percent of voters have a positive view of DeSantis, and only 9% have a strongly positive view. However, 36 percent of Republican primary voters list DeSantis as a second choice more than any other candidate with Nikki Haley at 15 percent.
