Congressman Neal Dunn has announced that the Office of the Inspector General is finally taking a look into the years-long mail delivery issues plaguing Tallahassee. In a Facebook post, Dunn shares that an audit team of the Inspector General is “currently on the ground in Leon County investigating poor service, missing letters and packages, and other problems that should NOT exist.”

At the April 9 meeting, the Leon County Commission will consider accepting -on behalf of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office – funding to support the Council on the Status of Men and Boys for FY 2024 from the City of Tallahassee in the amount of $300,000 and $70,000 from the Leon County School Board.

A Tallahassee man was sentenced to life in prison this week after attacking a woman in a Sam’s Club parking lot. That life sentence was handed down Thursday to Shakel McClain. He was found guilty of attempted murder, armed carjacking and fleeing police earlier this year.

A judge in North Carolina on Thursday denied Florida State’s request to dismiss the ACC’s lawsuit against the school, which is trying to sue its way out of the league. A little less than two weeks after a hearing in Mecklenburg County, Judge Louis A. Bledsoe III ruled that the ACC had sufficiently argued it had followed conference procedures in filing suit in December against Florida State and that North Carolina is the appropriate jurisdiction for the case. A hearing in FSU’s lawsuit against the ACC is scheduled for Tuesday in Leon County, Florida.

Florida State All-America Lottie Woad is in first place after the second round of the Fifth Annual Augusta National Women’s Amateur at the Champions Retreat Golf Course. Woad has a two-round total of 139 (68-71) and is two strokes ahead of Florida’s Maisie Filler as the field enters Saturday’s championship round on the famed Augusta National Golf Club.

Florida State men’s basketball is in the middle of a mass exodus as six players have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal since the conclusion of the season. The most significant loss so far came earlier this week when rising junior forward Cam Corhen announced that he was moving on from the Seminoles. Corhen is coming off his second year in Tallahassee where he improved on all of his averages despite dealing with a toe injury. 

FLORIDA NEWS

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation on Thursday providing funding for environmental management resources in the state. The bill, SB 1638, was sponsored by Sen. Travis Hutson, R-Palm Coast. It primarily includes investments into the state’s water management system. Additionally, it directs the bulk of revenue from the Seminole Tribe’s gaming compact with the state to conservation efforts.

Gov. Ron DeSantis predicted that the abortion and marijuana ballot amendments will fail to pass when put up for a vote in November. “Once voters figure out how radical both of those are, they’re going to fail,” he said. “They’re very, very extreme.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill regulating food delivery platforms in Florida, requiring explicit consent from restaurants for listings, transparent consumer cost breakdowns, and prohibiting unauthorized price alterations. The bill further stipulates that platforms must provide consumers with a transparent breakdown of costs associated with each order, including the purchase price of the food and beverage, any commission, delivery fee, tip, gratuity, or taxes due on the transaction.

President Joe Biden is expected to get a firsthand look Friday at efforts to clear away the hulking remains of the collapsed Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, as cranes, ships and diving crews work to reopen one of the nation’s main shipping lanes.

Almost 700,000 customers were without power across the Northeast yesterday as a powerful storm system brought high winds and more than 2 feet of snow to some locations in the region. Three people were killed in separate incidents after trees fell on their vehicles.
