On Wednesday, April 24th, the Tallahassee City Commission voted to move forward with placing proposed amendments on the ballot for consideration at the next general election.
Pursuant to state law, the Commission must adopt proposed charter amendments by ordinance and instruct the Supervisor of Elections of Leon County by resolution to include the related questions on the ballot for the general election on November 5, 2024.

The city commission voted 3-2, (Matlow, Porter against) to introduce Ordinance No. 24-O-20, adopting a proposed charter amendment concerning commissioner compensation, and schedule the first and only public hearing for the May 8, 2024, City Commission meeting.
QUESTION 1 – CHARTER AMENDMENT ADDRESSING THE SALARIES OF CITY COMMISSIONERS
Shall the Charter of the City of Tallahassee be amended to provide that members of the City Commission be paid an annual salary equal to the annual salary set by state law for members of the Board of County Commissioners of Leon County, Florida?

Shall the Charter of the City of Tallahassee be amended to provide that if only two candidates, neither of whom is a write-in candidate, qualify for the same seat on the City Commission, the names of those candidates will appear on the general election ballot instead of the primary election ballot? ___YES

QUESTION 4 – CHARTER AMENDMENT TO PROVIDE FOR PERIODIC REVIEW OF THE CHARTER
Shall the Charter of the City of Tallahassee be amended to require the City Commission to convene a charter review committee and conduct a review of the charter every ten years, beginning in June 2033?

Question #1 = Should read: Shall the City Commission be allowed to raise their annual salary to Double what it is now?
Question #2 = If any City Commissioner (or County Commissioner) in involved with anything, Work related, even if just talking about it on Social Media, it all should fall in the JURISDICTION OF THE INDEPENDENT ETHICS BOARD.
Question #3 = Can be very confusing to a lot of People. All you need to say is, “If only two Candidates are running for the same Seat, shall they bypass the Primary Election and just rely on the General Election”?
Question #4 = Needs to include “How long is it between Reviews NOW? Are you increasing or Decreasing the Time between Reviews? I say it should be every 5 Years.
