Growth Management to Consider the Charlie Ward Champions Ranch Planned Unit Development

On June 10, 2024 the Tallahassee Development Review Committee (DRC) will consider an application to create the Charlie Ward Champions Ranch Planned Unit Development.

The project location is 104 acres on the South side of Capital Circle SE (CCSE), approximately 2,870 feet east of Woodville Highway.

The application states the development is “for a 104-acre state-of-the art sport and recreational complex with components including recreation fields and courts, gymnasiums, golf activities, meetings/conference rooms, event space, cafes, training facilities, a retreat center and lodging. The facility will also include passive recreation such as parks and walking trails and open space.”

Other publicly available information related to the project show artists renderings of the facility.

  1. Is this something C-Dub (or an investment group he created) is funding?
Hope it gets built, as long as the taxpayers aren’t paying for it.

  2. I hope this idea doesn’t go down the same path as the FAMU extremely generous “gift.”

Leadership and others in Leon County seem to get overly giddy about all kinds of wonderful things that are going to happen. Then, they sadly find out there’s no money to pay for them. Many never do materialize.

The recent discussion about Blueprint financially participating in the so-called “affordable housing” initiative is a good example. There’s no more money folks!

It’s always best to check on the financial viability of an idea before you start pumping-up everyone’s tennis shoes about some pie-in-the-sky “dream.”

  3. I second David’s request. It certainly seems like a nice idea and concept, but who is paying for it, will it reduce homelessness, and will it address the ever-increasing crime rate in Tallahassee. Oh, and who is the “lodging” intended for? … will this eventually transition into an illegal alien holding facility?

Asking for a taxpaying American Citizen friend. 🙂

  4. Hey TR, can you dig a little deeper and do a follow up about WHO is paying for this? Where is the Money going to come from?
