On Nov. 22, four high school football teams from the Tallahassee area competed in the second round of the regional championships in their respective class. Maclay, FSUHS, and Godby all lost while Lincoln was the only team to advance to the next round.
Maclay (2 seed) played against Trinity Cristian Academy (3 seed) in the second round of the FHSAA 1A state tournament. Although the Marauders were up by 7 points going into the 4th quarter, they allowed Trinity Christian to outscore them 14-0 ending the game in a 28-21 win for the Conquerors.
After beating Marianna (5 seed) in the first round, FSUHS (4 seed) played against top seeded Gadsden County (1 seed) in the second round of the FHSAA 2A state tournament. The Seminoles season came to an end with Gadsden County winning 42-11.
Following a 34-28 win against Suwannee (7 seed), the Godby Cougars (2 seed) faced off against Bishop Kenny (3 seed) in the second round of the FHSAA 3A state tournament. Bishop Kenny ended up defeating the Cougars in a 36-26 win to move on to the regional finals.
Lincoln (2 seed) faced off against Fleming Island (6 seed) in a close game in the FHSAA 5A Regional Semi-Finals. Lincoln got off to a good start in the first half scoring 16 points but had to rely on their defense in the second half – giving up only 6 points. The Trojans defeated Fleming Island with a score of 16-13. Lincoln advanced to the regional finals where they will play Niceville. This will be their second meeting this season, Niceville won the first meeting 38-35.
