CCS Boys Soccer Win First Round of State Tournament

On Feb. 11, the Community Christian Chargers (CCS) took on the Rocky Bayou Christian Nights in the first round of the FHSAA 1A State Tournament. This was the fourth time this year that these two teams faced off. Before the state tournament, Rocky Bayou Christian was 3-0 against the Chargers including a 3-2 overtime win in the district title game. In the region, the Chargers were seeded 6th and the Knights were seeded 3rd.

The first half of the match was relatively low scoring. Each team got on the board and went into halftime with a score of 1-1 after 40 minutes. As the second half started you could tell both teams were performing better offensively compared to earlier in the match. CCS tacked on two more goals in the second half beating the Knights 3-2, advancing to the regional semi-final. Notable performances from CCS included Will Fordham (Sr.) scoring two goals securing a brace, Malachi Lassiter (Jr.) scoring a goal, and Cole Veleber (So.) and Will Kinnon (Jr.) each having one assist.

With this win, CCS will face off against Academy at the Lakes (2 seed) in the regional semi-finals on Feb. 14 at Heritage Park.
