Provided below the state attorney’s synopsis of a trial related to an incident that took place on the FSU campus in 2021.
Defendant Travis J. Gibson was convicted of approaching a young woman on FSU campus while she was walking to an early morning yoga class. After approaching the young woman, the Defendant bear hugged the young woman and covered her mouth. The young woman tried to fight off the Defendant as he was trying to pull off her shorts. The young woman was eventually able to get escape from the Defendant.
Less than an hour later, the Defendant approached another young woman near the campus while walking from her apartment to her car. The Defendant tried to grab the young woman before she got into her car but was unsuccessful. The Defendant tried to open the young woman’s car door multiple times but was once again unsuccessful. As she was driving off, he took out his penis and stuck his tongue out at her. The Defendant was found guilty of the crimes against this victim.
Defendant confessed to both incidents, stating that he wanted to “take it and make love” to the young women while also indicating that these women were “terrified” of him.
The Judge found the Defendant guilty of all charges and sentenced the Defendant to Life in prison.
