Hugh Max Jordan died peacefully October 11th, 2025, surrounded by his family in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born November 29, 1940, in Montgomery, Alabama. He was the third eldest of twelve children born to the late Ross Allen Jordan and Vivian Dyal Jordan.
In his youth, his parents started several businesses, such as a gas station, helping Hugh develop a well-rounded practical background. He learned vital business skills like communication, hard work, and finance.
In 1963, he joined the Alabama Air National Guard, serving as jet aircraft and engine mechanic/crew chief at Dannely ANG Base in Montgomery until 1969.
In 1964, after courting her for five years, he married Sylvia Stokes. This was, in his words,” the smartest decision I ever made,” and he fully credited her with his successes in life. Her total encouragement and support were invaluable in furthering his career.
In 1966, he entered the finance field starting in Montgomery, then Atlanta and Tallahassee. His greatest achievement was establishing eleven offices in Florida, Georgia and Alabama as Regional Vice President of Green Tree Financial, specialists in financing manufactured housing. He retired in 1996 at age 56.
As avid travelers, Hugh and Sylvia visited all 50 states and 137 countries. Another favorite pastime was boating and exploring lakes and scenic rivers in the Big Bend area.
Hugh always loved family reunions, and he joins Sylvia Jordan in Heaven, along with his parents and many siblings and relatives in paradise-the greatest family reunion. He is survived by his son Jeffrey Jordan (Crystal), daughter Joy Herron (Andray), granddaughter Jordan Herron, and grandson Conner Herron, along with his sister Joyce Jordan-Byrd (James), his brother Randy Jordan (Carrie), and numerous nephews and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 12 noon Friday, October 17, 2025, at Bevis Funeral Home until 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at Bevis Chapel. Burial will be at MeadowWood Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice.
