Florida High Alum Leads Kentucky Women’s Basketball to Top 20 Ranking

The Kentucky Women’s basketball team is currently on a hot streak with a record of 17-3 and are ranked 11th in the latest AP poll. They have beaten two top 10 teams this season with much help from Florida High alum Tonie Morgan. Morgan is the starting point guard for the Wildcats and averages 15 points per game and 8.7 assists per game. Morgan has been the lead scorer for each of their last four games while dropping 22 points in there 63-57 win over 5th ranked Oklahoma (14-4) on Jan 11th.

On Jan. 1, Kentucky played LSU (17-2), who was ranked 5th at the time, during an away conference matchup in Louisiana. In their SEC opener, Kentucky stunned No. 5 LSU 80–78 as Tonie Morgan drilled a go-ahead three-pointer at the buzzer to seal a dramatic upset. Morgan finished the game leading the Wildcats in two categories with 24 points and 12 assists.

In another showdown with a then–No. 5 ranked Oklahoma squad, Kentucky earned a 63–57 victory to add another top-10 win to its résumé. Morgan was once again the lead scorer with 22 points and also led the team with 4 assists.

In a recent game against Florida, Tonie Morgan set her season high with an outing of 26 points beating the Gators in Kentucky with a score of 94-89. Although The Wildcats lost their last game against Mississippi State (15-5) 71-59, they will have plenty of tough matchups as their schedule continues to try to break back into the AP top 10.

Kentucky faces a daunting finish to the 2025–26 regular season, with a stretch that includes two games against 5th ranked Vanderbilt (19-0), along with road battles at 4th ranked Texas (18-2) and 2nd ranked South Carolina (19-1) — a tough slate that could define their SEC positioning down the stretch.

Kentucky hopes to bounce back in their next game with a win in a top 20 matchup against 17th ranked Tennessee (13-3) on the road on Jan. 22nd.
