BREAKING NEWS: Tallahassee City Manager Reese Goad to Resign

In a move that is sure to have electoral implications, Tallahassee Reports has learned that Tallahassee City Manager Reese Goad has informed the city commission that he plans to resign. In a letter (included below) addressed to the mayor and city commissioners, Goad announced his resignation “effective September 30, 2026, or upon your selection of the next City Manager, at which time I will retire from the City of Tallahassee.”

Goad, who has been a frequent target of the progressive left via City Commissioner Jeremy Matlow, was selected city manager in 2017.

In the resignation letter, Goad says, it “has been my honor to serve as Tallahassee’s City Manage for the last nine years since first stepping into the role in 2017, and subsequent appointment in 2018.” Goad has worked with city in various capacities for 25 years.

During his time as city manager, Goad faced major challenges related to the FBI corruption investigation and resulting guilty verdicts, the COVID pandemic, and the election of progressive commissioners Matlow and Porter who routinely called for his resignation.

This is a breaking story, check back for updates.
