Florida motorists Tuesday paid an average of $2.75 for a gallon of regular unleaded gas, down 3 cents from a week earlier, according to the AAA auto club. The state average was down 15 cents from a month earlier and 43 cents from this time last year. The national average price Tuesday was $2.82 a gallon, the same as a week earlier.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said oil prices are back near $60 a barrel. “There’s still a window of opportunity to revisit — or even beat — recent gas price lows, but that window will begin to close soon,” De Haan posted on the GasBuddy site.
Pump averages are seasonally low due to a reduction in demand and the use of cheaper winter blend gasoline. While President Donald Trump has softened threats to Iran, De Haan noted other ongoing geopolitical developments, including renewed threats “involving Greenland that could strain NATO relations, the potential for additional sanctions on Europe, and continued uncertainty surrounding Venezuela, where the U.S. capture of President Nicolás Maduro has raised fresh questions about the country’s future oil production.”
