On Jan. 23rd, Rickards and Godby added another close contest to their long standing rivalry Friday night, with the Raiders outlasting the Cougars 47-42 in overtime in a game that featured multiple lead changes and strong defensive play throughout. Rickards snapped Godby’s six-game winning streak with the victory, improving to 10-10 on the season while the Cougars dropped to 15-5.
The scoring started off slow as it was a defensive showdown featuring highlight reel level blocks from both teams. Rickards’ lead scorer Calvin Thomas had 10 points in the first half, helping the Raiders finish the second quarter with a one point lead with a score of 19-18.
Starting the second half off strong, Godby found points first with Lazarus Chambers hitting two free-throws to go up 20-18. Godby’s lead scorer Terrell Ceasor finished the fourth quarter with 17 total points helping the Cougars force the game into overtime with a score of 40-40 after four quarters.
Godby struck first in the extra period, getting to the line on consecutive possessions. Jaden Staten and Terrell Ceasor each connected on free throws to give the Cougars a quick 42-40 lead.
Cam Plummer sparked a rally with a clutch two-point basket to tie the game, attacking the lane and finishing through contact. From there, the Raiders leaned on their composure at the foul line. Plummer repeatedly stepped up in pressure moments, converting free throws that kept Rickards in front down the stretch.
The decisive sequence came when Rickards delivered a strong finish in the paint, pushing the Raiders ahead 44-42 and forcing Godby to play from behind for the first time in overtime.
Plummer then sealed the outcome by knocking down additional free throws in the final seconds, capping a 7–0 Rickards run after trailing early in the period.
Other notable performances from Godby included Jaden Staten with nine points and Jason Brown with six points.
On the other side of the ball, Rickards had a notable performance from Cam Plummer with seven points.
