On Jan. 26 and Jan. 27, three Leon County girls soccer teams won district titles in their respective classifications. Chiles took home the 5A District 2 crown, while Florida High won 3A District 2 and Maclay captured the 2A District 1 title.
Chiles – 5A District 2
On Jan 27th, the Chiles girls soccer team beat Mosley with a score of 3-1 to win back-to-back district titles. The Timberwolves improved to 11-3-1 after the FHSAA 5A District 2 tournament with two wins including their semi-final match against Lincoln which ended in a score of 2-0.
Three different Chiles players scored in the district final match against Mosely with Charlotte Reynolds, Jada Bartusek and Kendall Sadberry all finding the back of the net. Kendall Sadberry and Hannah Hassell each had one assist.
Florida High – 3A District 2
Florida High avenged last year’s district final loss with a 6-1 win over North Bay Haven Academy on Jan. 26 in the FHSAA 3A District 2 championship. The Seminoles improved to 11-5-3 after their two wins in the district tournament including their semi-final match against Rutherford which they won with a score of 9-0.
During district finals, Gabrielle Jeune led the Seminoles in scoring with four goals while her teammates Sophia Mason and Taylor Alkire both had one goal and one assist each. Bella Fontenot led the Seminoles with two assists while Florida High’s keeper, Julia Robinson, had 5 saves on the night while allowing only one goal.
Maclay – 2A District 1
On Jan. 27, the Maclay girls soccer team beat Taylor County (17-4) 3-0 in the FHSAA 2A District 1 tournament to win back-to-back district titles. On their way to the district title match, the Marauders faced off against Marianna in the semi-final round ultimately beating the Bulldogs 3-0. With these two wins Maclay finished overall record of 9-6-2.
