The Sparks announced Saturday, Aug. 15, that the rookie guard had been signed to a standard WNBA contract, giving Morgan an opportunity to continue her first professional season as a full member of the team after initially joining Los Angeles through its Player Development pool.
Morgan, a second-round selection in the 2026 WNBA Draft, has made the most of her opportunities since arriving in Los Angeles. Her ability to create for teammates, take care of the ball and provide energy on both ends of the court has helped her carve out a role with the Sparks.
Her recent performances have offered a glimpse of what she can bring to the team.
In five games from Aug. 11 through Aug. 22, Morgan averaged 5.6 points, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals while shooting 66.7% from the field. She played at least 15 minutes in four of those games.
Morgan’s most efficient offensive performances came during a pair of games against the Connecticut Sun. She scored eight points on 4-of-5 shooting in a 20-minute appearance on Aug. 18. Four days later, she helped the Sparks close out Connecticut with a 77-68 victory, contributing two points, three rebounds, an assist and a steal in 15 minutes.
She also put together an eight-point performance against Atlanta on Aug. 20, knocking down four of her five shots while adding three assists and two steals.
Morgan was originally selected No. 32 overall by the Chicago Sky in the 2026 WNBA Draft before joining the Sparks. Rather than beginning her professional career with a guaranteed standard-roster spot, she entered the organization through its Player Development pool and worked her way toward the opportunity she received Aug. 15.
That progression has now put Morgan in position to continue contributing to the Sparks as the regular season enters its final stretch.
For the 2026 rookie, the standard contract represents more than a roster transaction. It is the latest step in a rapid transition from becoming one of college basketball’s top passers at Kentucky to competing for a role at the professional level.
And based on what Morgan has shown in her recent minutes, Los Angeles appears willing to see what the young guard can do with an expanded opportunity.
