Leon County Volleyball Teams Featured in Latest Rankings

The latest volleyball rankings feature 11 Tallahassee teams, led by Chiles at the top of the list with a record of 8-4. Leon and Florida High round out the top 3 in a very close race with only .38 rating points separating the two teams. All statistics were taken from MaxPreps, with the rankings last updated on Sept. 17, 2026.

Chiles

Chiles has put together an 8-4 start to the season, highlighted by several strong wins and competitive matches against some of the area’s top programs. The Timberwolves opened the season with a 3-0 win over North Bay Haven before dropping back-to-back five-set matches to Forest and Santa Fe at the start of the season. Chiles responded by defeating The Villages Charter in five sets and Niceville, 3-1, before falling to Florida High, 3-0, on Aug. 27. The Timberwolves then picked up consecutive sweeps over Maclay and Leon before avenging their earlier loss to Florida High with a 3-0 win on Sept. 8. After a 3-2 loss to Middleburg, Chiles returned to the win column with 3-0 victories over Lincoln and Mosley.

Sterling Carlile has been one of the team’s leading offensive and defensive contributors, recording 159 kills and averaging 3.5 kills and 3.4 digs per set, while Avery Banks has added 145 kills and a 3.3 kills-per-set average. Loganne Abernathy leads Chiles with a .332 hitting percentage and 49 total blocks, while setter Riley Boykin has recorded 311 assists and 22 service aces.

Chiles has several notable matchups remaining, including a Sept. 22 trip to Maclay, a Sept. 30 rematch at Leon, and October matches against Mosley, Wakulla and Lincoln.

Leon

Leon has opened the season with a 14-6 record, collecting several notable wins while facing a challenging schedule that has included multiple tournament appearances and matchups against top Tallahassee programs. The Lions dropped their first two matches of the season to Lowndes and Lee County before responding with a 3-1 win at Wakulla. Leon went 1-1 at the Aug. 22 event, defeating Columbia before falling to Enterprise in five sets, then picked up a 3-1 road win at Maclay and swept Lincoln. The Lions continued their strong stretch at the Destin tournament, winning four matches against Destin, Chipley, North Bay Haven and Wewahitchka. Leon’s first matchup with Chiles ended in a 3-0 loss on Sept. 1, but the Lions bounced back with a sweep of Community Christian and went 5-1 at their Sept. 12 tournament, with wins over Providence Christian, Straughn, Wicksburg, Rehobeth and Prattville before a 2-1 loss to Enterprise. Leon then dropped a close five-set match to Florida High on Sept. 15 before defeating Wakulla, 3-1, in the rematch two days later.

The Lions have three notable regular-season matchups remaining, including a Sept. 24 visit to Lincoln, a Sept. 30 rematch with Chiles and an Oct. 6 home match against Florida High, followed by Maclay on Oct. 7.

Florida High

Florida High has started the season 4-2, with all six of its matches coming against Tallahassee-area opponents or teams from the surrounding region. The Seminoles opened the season with a 3-0 sweep of Aucilla Christian before making an early statement with a 3-0 win over Chiles on Aug. 27. Florida High followed with another sweep at Lincoln before Chiles returned the favor with a 3-0 win in the teams’ Sept. 8 rematch. The Seminoles then dropped a five-set match to Maclay on Sept. 10 but bounced back with a 3-2 victory over Leon on Sept. 15 and a 3-0 sweep of Lincoln two days later.

Addison Mayernick has led the Florida High offense with 63 kills and an average of 2.9 kills per set, while Ava Baldwin has added 50 kills and leads the team with 95 receptions. Olivia Woods has been a key contributor from the setter position, leading the team with 156 assists, 56 digs and 19 service aces while averaging 2.5 digs per set. Olivia Barksdale leads the team with a .274 hitting percentage, while freshman Kassidy Young has recorded a team-high 21 total blocks.

Florida High has several opportunities to build on its season in the coming weeks, including a Sept. 19 doubleheader against Freeport and Bartram Trail, a Sept. 26 tournament featuring four matches, and an Oct. 6 rematch at Leon. The Seminoles are also scheduled to face Maclay again on Oct. 3.
