Following Seasonal Trends, Jobs Down, Unemployment Rate Up in June

The latest employment information shows that Leon County lost 875 jobs in June, 2019. One year ago Leon County lost 1,747 jobs. This month’s job loss follows a loss of approximately 217 jobs in May.

The unemployment rate increased from 2.9% in May to 3.5% in June. One year ago the unemployment rate was 3.8%.

The number of people working in June 2019 has increased when compared to last year. The Leon County Jobs Report, listed below, indicates that 150,205 were working in June, 2019. This is 2,638 more than the 147,567 reported working in June last year.

Also, the labor force expanded when compared to one year ago. In June, 2019 the workforce was 155,580 compared to 153,326 last year.

At the state-level, 4,000 jobs were added in June, 2019. However, the unemployment rate increased to 3.5% from 3.1% in May, 2019.

The chart below shows that monthly level of jobs in Leon County over the last three years with a 12-month average trend line. As the chart shows, the current monthly trends are consistent with the movement in jobs over the last three years.
