There were more people working in September in Leon county than ever before. The unemployment rate reached a level not seen since 2007. And, the workforce in Leon county has reached historic levels.
Here are the numbers.
The latest employment information shows that Leon County added 4,933 jobs in September, 2019. One year ago Leon County added 5,411 jobs. This month’s job gain follows flat growth in August, which traditional sees significant job declines.
The unemployment rate in September decreased from 3.4% in August to 2.8% in September. One year ago the unemployment rate was 3.1%.
The number of people working in September 2019 increased when compared to last year. The Leon County Jobs Report, listed below, indicates that 156,369 were working in September, 2019. This is 4,511 more than the 151,858 reported working in September last year.
Also, the labor force expanded when compared to one year ago. In September, 2019 the workforce was 160,929 compared to 156,662 last year.
At the state-level, 127,000 jobs were added in September, 2019. The unemployment rate fell from 3.5% last month to 3.0% in September.
The chart below shows that monthly level of jobs in Leon County over the last three years with a 12-month average trend line. As the chart shows, the recent monthly job growth has bucked recent seasonal trends.
