Leon Jobs Hold Steady in October, Unemployment Rate 2.8%

After reaching levels not seen since 2007 in September, the job numbers for October remain strong. The latest employment information shows that Leon County added 351 jobs in October, 2019. One year ago Leon County added 385 jobs. This month’s job gains are consistent with previous trends in October.

The unemployment rate in October remained at 2.8%. One year ago the unemployment rate was 3.1%.

The number of people working in October 2019 increased when compared to last year. The Leon County Jobs Report, listed below, indicates that 156,689 were working in October, 2019. This is 4,446 more than the 152,243 reported working in October last year.

Also, the labor force expanded when compared to one year ago. In October, 2019 the workforce was 161,138 compared to 157,117 last year.

At the state-level, 43,000 jobs were added in October, 2019. The unemployment rate fell from 3.0% last month to 2.9% in October.

The chart below shows that monthly level of jobs in Leon County over the last three years with a 12-month average trend line. As the chart shows, the recent monthly job growth has bucked recent seasonal trends.
