The latest information from the Tallahassee International Airport shows passenger traffic increased 9.4% in March when compared to traffic one year ago. The number of passengers was up from 37,829 during March 2020 to 41,377 this year.
The 9.4% increase this month is relative to March 2020 traffic which began to feel the impact of the COVID pandemic. Looking at March 2019 traffic gives a more realistic view of where passenger traffic should be absent the impact of the COVID pandemic. For this reason we have included traffic from 2019 in the Passenger Traffic Report below.
March 2019 traffic was reported to be 73,055, approximately 32,000 passengers higher than the March 2021 traffic.
The Passenger Traffic Report shows passenger counts were up 39.6% for American Airlines, the Delta Group was down 31.3% and Silver Airways was down 31.2%.
The graph below shows the annualized number of passengers for the last 24-months. The annual rate of passengers at TIA in February was 293,767. While this number is still extremely low, it appears that the annualized number of passengers has reached the bottom and is headed back up. The annualized number of passengers is calculated by summing the previous 12 months of traffic.
The annualized passenger traffic before the Great Recession was approximately 947,000 in 2007.
