Today at noon, a number of local business groups will hold an informational meeting related to the proposed Northeast Gateway project.
The Greater Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce, the Big Bend Minority Chamber of Commerce, and the Capital City Chamber of Commerce are inviting members of their groups and community partners to participate in an informational session related to the project.
The meeting notice states that there “has been a considerable amount of misinformation regarding the proposed NE Gateway: Welaunee Blvd. Blueprint project.”
The zoom webinar will take place today, Thursday, June 10, 2021, from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm.
You can register here.
Information will be provided by the Director of PLACE and the Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency team that has been working on the project.
The informational meeting is taking place ahead of a June 15th Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency meeting specifically scheduled to address the Northeast Gateway project.
The June 15th meeting was scheduled after some members of the Blueprint IA expressed the need for more time to address issues related to the project at last Blueprint IA meeting.
During that meeting, a tense discussion over a vote to consolidate previous decisions related to the Northeast Gateway resulted in a delay in moving forward with the project. The staff recommendation to move forward with the project, after previously being approved 8-3, failed 6-5.
Those five elected officials supporting the project included Mayor John Dailey, Leon County Commissioners Jimbo Jackson, Nick Maddox, Brian Welch and Carolyn Cummings.
Those voting against moving forward were City Commissioners Jeremy Matlow, Jack Porter and Curtis Richardson and Leon County Commissioners Kristen Dozier, Rick Minor and Bill Proctor.
After the staff recommendation failed, a unanimous decision was made to hold another Blueprint meeting before June 30 to allow additional time to address concerns of some residents who are negatively impacted by the project.
My two cents: Leave it alone. It has been that way for over a Decade. If anyone wants to avoid Thomasville Road, they will, just like I do. The roads I take have very few cars on them which tells me people are OK with how things are or they just love to complain. SO, leave it alone.

… sooooo… we’ll clean that “considerable amount of misinformation” up in about an hour.
… got it.
Blueprint. Our third form of government, unelected. Darling of developers.
Anyone know what we are paying these people at PLACE/Blueprint to tam things down our throat?
Try this for a few seconds if you can. Look at the N.E. Gateway from the point of view of anyone living south of I-10 in Leon County.
These people can not see the wisdom of spending millions so a bunch of wealthy and wealthy wannabes can sleep an extra 30 minutes and still get to work at 8:00AM.
Get your head outta bed 30 minutes earlier and save our communitty millions.
You all north of I-10 talk your stuff about leaving and forming your own government but you want us good folks south of I-10 to pay millions so you can sleep 30 minutes longer.
It is time for you all to go.
The commissioners waffled worse than ever on the vote avowing more study and resources spent. They are ridiculous. Wonder anything ever gets done in this county. We have such a hodgepodge of development because the commissioners can’t stay on track with their own decisions.
