During the June 29th Leon County School Board meeting, the Board approved the Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Centers Grant. The grant approval applies to seven schools in Leon County.
The federal grant funds the creation of learning centers in order to provide “academic, artistic, and cultural enrichment opportunities for children.” Specifically, the grant is to provide programs to help students meet state and local standards, especially students who attend low-performing schools.
The programs offered to students vary from arts and music to recreational activities, character education, drug/violence prevention, and technology education. Also, educational opportunities, such as computer training and cultural enrichment, are made available for families of participating students. The programs are offered before and after school and during holiday and summer breaks.
The seven schools in Leon County the grant will be applied for are as follows: Astoria Park Elementary and Pineview Elementary will each receive $239,968, both Springwood Elementary and Sabal Palm Elementary for $183,600 each, Griffin Middle in the amount of $129,216, and both Bond Elementary and Oak Ridge Elementary schools for $179,960 each.
According to the grant request form, the funds will support programs with expenditures for professional development and materials, travel, salaries for teachers, and activity leaders who provide instruction.
And further more:
By way of Rocky’s School Board, Leon County’s mostly Black kids cant even apply or qualify for a good paying job later in life, because THEY CANT READ.
The only way to make money falls back on gang life. You raciest 8astards.
Teach those babies to read.
And always remember it was you the local voters who are ultimately responsable for what the Democrats you keep electing again and again.
You raciest local voters look at what you have done.
GUILTY
The kids in these low performing schools CAN NOT READ. Go ahead and read the above article again and tell me how much money will be used so the kids can read.
Thats right not one red cent.
Teaching kids to read is hard work. We dont even need more money for that. We need teachers willing to work hard and get the job done. Thats what we need. It should not matter if the kids come from broken homes with very little parental interaction.
Teach those babies to read thats your one job.
It would be interesting to go back 20 years and see if we tried this already.
Lets give more money to the same poor performing teachers…these people are living in Bizarro world.
They are supposed to be professionally developed when Rocky Hannah hires them. Just sayin’…
You can not fix a social problem by throwing money at a school. Poor performance begins at home.
All expenses paid to Sandestin and Amelia Island… So predictable. Just match up the the recipients of this grant to the guest list at the Chamber’s Buffalo Pool Party.
“According to the grant request form, the funds will support programs with expenditures for professional development and materials, travel, salaries for teachers, and activity leaders who provide instruction.”
So… its not at all about the children or their education… just some junkets for the connected.
… got it :-/
