Donna Adelson is alleging gross misconduct and “cruel and unusual punishment” by her solitary confinement guards at the Leon County Detention Center, saying in a court filing the staff are forcing the 73-year-old to eat with her hands, sleep naked and are calling her a “fancy white lady murderer” with “no rights.” The allegations are part of a motion filed Tuesday by her attorney.

For the fourth consecutive season, Florida State women’s soccer has a MAC Hermann Finalist – college soccer’s most prestigious award – as Onyi Echegini was named a finalist for the award on Wednesday afternoon.
Florida State redshirt junior punter Alex Mastromanno was named a second-team All-American Wednesday by CBS Sports/247Sports. Mastromanno is also one of three finalists for the Ray Guy Award, presented to the nation’s top punter.

Bridget Ziegler, the wife of Republican Party of Florida Chairman Christian Ziegler, resigned from her position at the Leadership Institute. Christian Ziegler is involved in a sexual assault investigation, but his attorney expressed confidence the chairman will be exonerated. An investigation was launched by the Sarasota Police Department involving Ziegler, relating to a heavily redacted report that contained unredacted words such as “raped” and “sexual assault complaint.”
Florida Republican lawmakers introduce legislation that would ban local officials from getting gifts from “countries of concern.” Republicans Sen. Blaise Ingoglia of Spring Hill and Rep. Alex Andrade of Pensacola filed the bill Wednesday that would ban gifts from China, Russian, Iran, North Korea, Cuba, Venezuela, and Syria. Ingoglia said the bill was introduced not because of a particular situation where someone was being unduly influenced. He said it’s a logical response to current circumstances.
The American Tort Reform Foundation (ATRF) has removed Florida from its ‘Judicial Hellhole’ list, a move credited to recent legal reforms in the state. Noted changes include amendments to the comparative negligence system, which now limits damage recovery for plaintiffs more than 50 percent responsible for their injuries.
