The Commission unanimously approved the ratification of the Commission’s actions taken at the November 28, 2023 Workshop on Human Services and the Community Human Services Partnership (CHSP). In January, staff will provide the Commission with information on a proposal for the CHSP to remove children services from their funding categories and to have those categories primarily funded by the Children Services Council.
The Commission unanimously appointed Commissioner Nick Maddox as chair of the Canvassing Board who will serve a one-year term, and Commissioner Christian Caban as a substitute member who will serve a two-year term. At the next business meeting, the Commission will announce who Nick Maddox chose as an alternate member for the Canvassing Board. Additionally, the Board unanimously reappointed all Commissioners to their various respective Boards.
During discussion, Commissioner Nick Maddox made a motion to have further conversation during the County Commission retreat related to including the success of the local universities sports teams in the bicentennial celebration.
“CHSP to remove children services from their funding categories and to have those categories primarily funded by the Children Services Council.”
Does this mean that CHSP will ALSO hand over to CSC the Money that CHSP was spending on children services? What about the People at CHSP that were handling all of the children services in CHSP? Will they be let go or just do a lot less since they will no longer be dealing with children services? CSC should NOT be asking for an increase in Funding from us Tax Payers (Property Taxes).
