Below are the meeting briefs that took place during the Leon County School Board business meeting on December 12, 2023.
During the beginning of the meeting several teachers spoke to the Board, expressing that teacher pay is not enough. One teacher stated, “As a teacher, I’m told to work without raises because it’s for the kids, and I’m not given any incentive for being effective other than it makes me happy.”
The Board unanimously approved a new policy that addressed implementing a school-based mental health assistance program that includes training classroom teachers and other school staff in detecting and responding to mental health issues and connecting children, youth and families who may experience behavioral issues with appropriate services.
The Board unanimously approved to advertise amendments to a policy regarding medication to relieve headaches. The revisions also include language referencing students with substantial mathematics deficiencies, reading deficiencies, and the availability of New Worlds Scholarships for students with reading and math deficiencies.
The Board unanimously approved to advertise amendments to a policy that addresses the ethical principles administrators must adhere to, and the disciplinary principles administrators must comply with. Amendments also address prohibiting administrators from activities that are in substantial conflict with the proper discharge of their duties in the public interest and from accepting or soliciting anything of value.
The Board unanimously approved to advertise amendments to a policy that gives guidance as to when and where students are allowed to use wireless communication devices. Additionally, amendments include prohibiting “Sexting” at any time on school property or at school functions.
The Board unanimously approved to advertise amendments to a policy that addressed emergency management. One of the amendments made to this policy address Alyssa’s Alert/Mobile Panic Alert System and timely parental notification of threats and significant emergencies.
The Board unanimously approved to advertise amendments to a policy that addressed health education. Amendments to this policy include the expansion of comprehensive instruction on teen dating violence, life skills, sexual abstinence, and the social, emotional, and physical effects of social media.
Superintendent Rocky Hanna announced the Leon County District School grades were released, revealing that our district has improved from 61 to 64 points, meaning that Leon County remains a B+ district. Additionally. Hanna said he will continue striving for an A+ District and noted how proud he was of all the teachers and principals.
Teachers and administrators are doing a great job. And thank goodness there is extra help for kids with reading and math deficiencies. I really see a way of reaching that goal of going from a B+, which is phenomenal in and of itself, to an A district! Rocky Hanna and the teachers of LCS deserve accolades!
Students with reading and math deficiencies don’t need scholarships, they need better teachers, and more rigorous study.
LCS terrifies the kids with global warming this and climate change that, then they confuse them with boys can have a period and babies if they want, and none of you know what gender you really are until we tell you (behind the parents back). It’s no wonder none of them are interested in reading, cyphering or even going to school…
When it becomes evident less than half of them are functionally literate, they tell us they are going to fix it with a “scholarship”, and not just any scholarship… oh heck no, it’s a “world” scholarship.
Y’all feel better now? When it’s all over, they will be morbidly obese, functionally illiterate, borderline diabetics and a burden to everyone.
Happy New Year!!!! Hahaha
