Lawton Chiles High School recently named Bill Ragans as the new head coach for the Chiles Football Team. Ragans has been a part of the Chiles Football program for six years and is a former FSU football player. He was also the head coach at Leon High School for five years before moving to Chiles.
“Coach Ragans served as our interim head coach for the 2023 fall season, where he stepped in on short notice and ran a very successful program,” said the school in a statement. “His leadership and commitment to the program was evident and we are excited that Coach Ragans will lead us into the next chapter of Timberwolves football.”
Ragans is replacing former head coach, Kevin Pettis, after an investigation led to Pettis’ removal. After working under him for several years, Ragans hopes to move the program in a different direction.
During the 2023 Chiles football season, as the interim coach, Ragans and assistant offensive coordinator John Hernandez led the team to a 6-4 record with wins against the Fletcher Senators, the Rickards Raiders, the Ambassadors Christian Academy Stallions, and the Sunlake Seahawks. The team added important district wins against the Crestview Bulldogs and the Leon Lions.
“Bill has been around Chiles for six years and he has been a fantastic coach and teacher, says Athletics Director Mike Eto. “Really his rapport with the team, all the teachers on staff; it’s really going to work well for our football program.”
