The Children’s Services Council of Leon County (CSC Leon) recently announced the election of Mr. Darryl E. Jones, a member of the Leon County School Board, District 3, as the new Chair of its Governing Council.

A motorcyclist died Monday evening after his bike collided with a car, according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office. The crash happened at about 6:15 p.m. near the intersection of Capital Circle Southwest and Southern Street, just a few blocks west of where Capital Circle intersects with Crawfordville Road.

On Tuesday, June 25th, the Network of Entrepreneurs and Business Advocates (NEBA) forum featuring Tallahassee city commission Seat 1 candidates, Commissioner Curtis Richardson and challenger Dot Inman- Johnson, revealed candidate positions on important issues and addressed the progressive versus moderate Democrat split on the city commission.

At the June 19th city commission meeting, during the time allocated for public speakers, several progressive activists took the opportunity to attack Tallahassee Police Department, specific police officers and Chief Revell.

The state’s Citizens Property Insurance Corp. topped 1.211 million policies last week, as it continued to add thousands of customers. Citizens had 1,211,914 policies as of Friday, up from 1,207,292 policies a week earlier and 1,202,696 policies two weeks earlier, according to information on its website.

With hurricane season underway, a low-cost loan program was just expanded allowing property owners to better prepare homes for storms. Acting on one of the last bills on his desk from the 2024 Legislative Session, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed SB 770 modernizing the Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) program. PACE loans allow property owners to make improvements to their homes and finance the cost through property tax assessments.

Gov. Ron DeSantis vetoed a bill on Friday that sought to ease restrictions on constructing housing for agricultural workers on farms. In his veto message, DeSantis cited concerns over potential loopholes that could allow housing for illegal workers and the undermining of local government authority.

NATIONAL NEWS

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 yesterday in finding the president of the United States has some immunity over actions conducted while in office. The case stems from former President Donald Trump’s challenge to four felony charges over alleged interference with the 2020 election. The court’s majority opinion (read here) draws a distinction between official and unofficial acts of the office of the presidency.

Hurricane Beryl makes landfall on Caribbean island of Carriacou in Grenada as Category 4 storm with a maximum of 150 mph winds; the storm is expected to reach Jamaica tomorrow (More).

US stock markets close higher (S&P 500 +0.3%, Dow +0.1%, Nasdaq +0.8%) to kick off a holiday-shortened trading week (More).

  1. City has provided us a little information on the missing million. All financial records had a forensic audit using search words: Nonprofit -commissioner and Hunter. Nothing kicked out.
    Good news. There are “specialist” in Discovery and Collections, most in Tampa and Little Havana Fl. If the specialist doesn’t prevail, no 30% commission.
    This theft is an inside job.
