Jobs, Labor Force Decline in May, Unemployment Rate Steady at 3.2%

The latest job report shows that Leon County lost 3,475 jobs in May when compared to last month as the transition to the summer economy begins.

There were 155,746 people working in Leon County in May compared to April’s revised employment number of 159,221.

The May unemployment rate dropped to 3.2% from the 3.3% reported last month due to a drop in people looking for work. The number of people in the workforce decreased from 164,646 in April to 160,919 in May.

One year ago, the May 2023 unemployment rate was 3.0%.

Year Over Year Comparisons

The Leon County Jobs Report, provided below, shows the number of people working in May 2024 was 1,618 more than in May, 2023. The May labor force – those looking for jobs – came in at 160,919 which was 2,028 more than the number reported one year ago.

The chart below shows the monthly level of jobs in Leon County over the last 37 months with a 12-month average trend line. The highlighted numbers relate to employment levels for the month of May back to 2021.
