Tallahassee City Commission candidates Jack Porter and Dot Inman-Johnson are proposing $60,000 starting salaries for firefighters, which – if implemented – would result in a major increase in the fire service fund budget and an increase in the fire service fee.

A Leon County Detention Facility deputy has been terminated after being accused of beating an inmate during an incident last month, according to the Leon County Sheriff’s Office.

A federal judge has sentenced a Tallahassee man for his involvement in the 2022 mass shooting at Half Time Liquors. The U.S. Department of Justice says Tamylon Williams, 28, was ordered to serve 96 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Williams pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A federal appeals court Thursday upheld the conviction of a Tallahassee woman who was accused of seeking her estranged husband’s death in a murder-for-hire plot.

Florida A&M University President Larry Robinson announced Friday he will step down after nearly seven years leading the state’s only historically Black public university and plans to return to the faculty.

Former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt during a campaign rally Saturday. The 20-year-old suspect was killed by a Secret Service sniper after a bullet pierced the upper part of Trump’s right ear. The attack killed one rally attendee, 50-year-old Corey Comperatore, and left two others critically injured.
