Jobs Down in August, Unemployment Rate Unchanged at 3.9%

The latest job report shows that Leon County lost 356 jobs in August when compared to July. There were 156,346 people working in Leon County in August compared to July’s revised employment number of 156,702.

The August unemployment rate remained unchanged from last month at 3.9%. One year ago, the August 2023 unemployment rate was 3.5%.

There were 162,630 people in the workforce in August, down from 163,045 in July.

Year Over Year Comparisons

The Leon County Jobs Report, provided below, shows the number of people working in August 2024 was 1,452 more than in August 2023. The August labor force – those looking for jobs – came in at 162,639 which was 2,193 more than the number reported one year ago.

The chart below shows the monthly level of jobs in Leon County over the last 37 months with a 12-month average trend line. The highlighted numbers relate to employment levels for the month of August back to 2021.

    Above charts still are irrevelant since they continue to start in 2021, right in the middle of Covid. Would be more relevant if they started in 2019. For example, from 8/21 to 8/24 employment increased app 10,000- how? Compared to pre-Covid, what?
