Nearly 40,000 insurance claims had been filed in Florida as of Sunday from Hurricane Helene, which made landfall Thursday night in Taylor County and caused widespread damage in the state. The number of claims and estimated insured losses will increase in the coming days and weeks.
Fatal drug overdoses, which fell in the U.S. last year for the first time since before the pandemic, are down in Florida according to preliminary CDC data.
