On Nov. 15 the Lincoln Boys golf team, led by coach Callie Kitchens, competed in the 2A FHSAA state tournament in Howey-In-The-Hills, FL for the first time since 2002. Lincoln was the only high school golf team in the Tallahassee area to make it to state championships in their respective class and finished 6th out of 18 participating teams.
The event was a two-day tournament requiring a team of 5 golfers to play 2 rounds of 18 holes each. As mentioned, the Trojans finished 6th overall with a final team stroke count of 637. Bryce Matthews (Jr.) had the best performance out of the team shooting an 83 in the first round (+11) and a 70 (-2) in the second to bring his total stroke count for the tournament to a 153. Matthews ended up placing 14th in the individual standings.
Not far behind Matthews was teammate Chase Fleisher (So.) who shot an 81(+9) during round 1 and a 75 (+3) for round 2. With a stroke total of 156, Fleischer placed 21st individually.
Other performances from Lincoln golfers included Calvin Edwards (Sr.) who totaled 164 strokes with a low round of 81 (+9) (48th place), William Young who also had a total stroke count of 164 with a low round of 79 (+7) (48th place) and Ben Flury (Sr.) who shot a 179 with a low round of 86 (+14) (88th place).
