Seven Tallahassee High Schools Compete in FHSAA Cross Country State Finals

On Nov. 16 the FHSAA Cross Country State Championship finals meet took place at Apalachee Regional Park in Tallahassee, FL. High schools from Tallahassee that participated included Chiles, Lincoln, Leon, Maclay, JPII, FSUHS, and CCS. All results provided below were found on the MileSplit website.

Boys

Chiles, Lincoln and Leon all had teams competing in the 3A classification. Chiles placed 2nd overall with an average time of 16:18 only falling behind Belen Jesuit Preparatory School. Lincoln and Leon finished in 13th and 17th place with average times of 17:02 and 17:18, respectfully. The top Tallahassee runners in the 3A classification included Chiles runner Joshua Hicks who placed 14th individually with a time of 15:47.50, Lincoln runner Matthew Hauser who placed 15th and ran a 15:48.00, and Chiles runner Jonathan Kiros who placed 16th and ran a 15:49.10.

The 2A classification included only one Tallahassee runner, which was FSUHS runner Ben Kyvik. Kyvik placed 26th individually with a final time of 16:50.60.

There were two teams who qualified for the state tournament in the 1A classification including Maclay and Community Cristian (CCS). Maclay placed 10th as a team with an average time of 17:45 and CCS placed 21st with an average time of 18:19.

The notable performances from these two schools include Maclay runner David Barton who placed 10th with a time of 16:09.40, Maclay runner Charles Wilson who placed 58th with a time of 17:22.30 and CCS runner Luke Meli who placed 66th with a time of 17:29.10.

Girls

Chiles was the only Tallahassee team that qualified for the FHSAA 3A state final. Chiles finished in 4th place as a team with a average time of 19:19.0. Leon runner Madi Sims also qualified for the 3A state final as an individual. Sims ran a 21:12.10 and finished in 116th place. Some notable performances for Chiles include Savannah Stanley who placed 10th and ran a 18:44.90, Kaia Ables who placed 24th and ran a 19:18.60, and Maddie Morris who placed 32nd and ran a 19:37.10.

FSUHS runner Leah Boutwell was the only runner from a school in Tallahassee to qualify as an individual in the 2A classification. She placed 77th with a time of 21:00.40.

In the 1A classification, Maclay qualified as a team and JPII runner Serafina Rietow qualified as an individual. Maclay placed 16th overall with an average time of 22.06.0. Notable performances from the Marauders include Payton Thumm placing 44th with a time of 20:44.40, Lilly Bell placing 107th with a time of 22:06.80, and Nishi Bhanderi placing 114th with a time of 22:18.80.
