After a bruising election cycle that featured Tallahassee city commissioners Jeremy Matlow and Jack Porter actively working to unseat their colleague and current City Commissioner Curtis Richardson, Porter was passed over for the ceremonial role of mayor pro-tem.
The Leon County Commission has a new set of leaders and with them, some new priorities. As of Tuesday night, Brian Welch is the commission chair and Christian Caban the vice chair.
A homicide investigation is underway after a man was shot and killed Monday morning after allegedly trying to break into a home in west Tallahassee, according to a Tallahassee Police Department watch commander.

The Ukrainian military launched six US-supplied short-range ballistic missiles into Russia for the first time early Tuesday, two days after the Biden administration greenlit their expanded use. Russian officials claimed five of the missiles were intercepted, with a sixth hitting an ammunition depot in Russia’s southwestern region of Bryansk. The incident came on the 1,000th day of the deadliest conflict in Europe since World War II (see numbers).
