LOCAL NEWS

Tallahassee State College and Lively Technical College are contemplating the possibility of a merger. The main reason would be to consolidate their many workforce development programs.

Discussions at the latest Children’s Services Council (CSC) meeting indicate the Council is facing growing pains related to the group’s mission, expectations, program management and relationship with other local government entities.

Deputy Adam Shideler was selected as Sworn Law Enforcement Employee of the Month for January 2025.

This past weekend, three Leon County high school girls basketball teams participated in The Red Devil Classic hosted by Williston High School. The Leon County teams that participated included Rickards, Lincoln, and Florida High.

FLORIDA NEWS

Gov. Ron DeSantis has called a Special Session starting Jan. 27 to take up legislation cracking down on illegal immigration.

Hours after Gov. Ron DeSantis called on the Florida Legislature to gather at the end of this month in a special legislative session to address immigration as well as issues regarding condominiums, hurricane relief, and petition initiatives, the leaders of the House and Senate say that would be premature and they won’t cooperate.

Confirmation hearings for President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees begin today, with the Republican-controlled Senate evaluating more than a dozen key nominations this week. While more than 1,000 political appointee positions require a Senate confirmation vote, high-profile Cabinet nominees must first undergo confirmation hearings.

  1. I’m in favor of a TSC and Lively merger. It makes good sense.

    Then again, I’m also in favor of an FSU/FAMU merger. The joint Engineering school is a good example of why the merger would better serve most of us.
