Three Leon County Girl Basketball Teams Compete in The Red Devil Classic Tournament

This past weekend, three Leon County high school girls basketball teams participated in The Red Devil Classic hosted by Williston High School. The Leon County teams that participated included Rickards, Lincoln, and Florida High.

Rickards (14-2) played in two games during the tournament, facing Buchholz on Jan. 10 and Gainesville on Jan. 11. The Raiders beat Buchholz 46-37 with help from lead scorer Amirahs Hayes (Jr.), who put up a career high of 18 points on the Bobcat Defense.

The next day Rickards beat Gainesville in a close matchup with a final score of 59-54 and claimed their 14th win during the regular season. Notable performances from the Raiders against the Hurricanes included Amirahs Hayes with 16 points and Genesis Henry with 15 points.

Lincoln (11-5) played a highly ranked Williston (12-2) team on Jan. 11. Looking for their 12th win of the season, the Trojans stuck around with the Red Devils for as long as they could but could not stop their aggressive offense. The game ended 78-62 with Williston getting their 12th win of the season.

Coming off of a tough 37-35 loss to Rickards, Florida High (8-9) looked to bounce back in a tournament game against Buchholz (3-8). Florida High’s senior center Tori Davis helped lead the Seminoles to a 49-41 win over the Bobcats. Davis recorded a career high of 18 points in Florida High’s 8th win of the season.
