According to the owner, the Dog Et Al restaurant on South Monroe is permanently closed due to quality-of-life issues at the location.
Owner Adam Braun told a reporter with the Tallahassee Democrat that the restaurant has been relocated to Bannerman Crossing, a retail center in Northeast Leon County. The Bannerman Crossing location was opened in July 2024.
“We couldn’t really feel comfortable opening up at night and having employees there. It’s just unfortunate because I love the south side, so we want to try to open up somewhere (else) down there,” he said. “It’s not sustainable when you can only open up a fast-food restaurant for a two- or three-hour lunch.”
Braun cited theft, shootings in the area and an incident of a passer-by defecating in the parking lot.
Based on crime incident reports tabulated by Tallahassee Reports, Dog Et Al was located in one of the few areas that experienced an increase in total crime incidents in 2024 when compared to 2023.
Braun suggested another location could be opened somewhere in the greater downtown area.
I saw it for the first time up in my neck of the woods, so this weekend I’m going to try it. YUM!!!
Wow… I’m convinced you guys just really want to vent or start an unnecessary debate on what side of town is worse. Like it’s crime ALL AROUND here. On EVERY SIDE!! Let’s just say our farewells and good lucks.
@Jessica Lamberts- Having a job and working my ass off for everything I have is not entitled. I have lived in Tallahassee for over 30 years. I have been on the Southside hundreds of times over the years and it has Never been a safe area. It has continued to decline because the people who live in that area don’t take good care of it. There is no education needed to be able to see that.
I didnt vote to let anyone with a pulse own a weapon. That is a natural right and the states voted to especially protect it in the constitution. There has been no vote to change that.
I’m glad it’s gone. The food is terrible anyway. I don’t live on the Southside but im sure it doesn’t get the time and money that any other place in Tallahassee does. Also all those people who hate the Southside so much. Just say what you really want to say..Show who you really are, then educate yourself on how the people in the Southside are living and why instead of being delusional in your entitled world.
Those 41 years you made money. Just say thank you.
For the people complaining about the Southside, you helped make Tallahassee a worse place to live. You voted to let anyone with a pulse own a weapon. The influx of firearms during the pandemic has resulted in rising amounts of gun violence everywhere.
You think escaping to a richer neighborhood will be a magic wand, but it’s not. There has been crime and road rage shootings up there, too. Either everyone is armed or no one. No guns=no innocent people shot.
This comment section paints the south side to be south Chicago or something it’s really not that dangerous if you go out there instead of assuming it’s all bad.
It might just be quality, not quality of life as to why they are having a hard time. It just isnt as good since new ownership took over years ago.
Hey Mr. Braun, I think there might be space across from the Whatabuger on Thomasville Road. as well as the the BadaBean Place just south of the Whataburger.
@ August West ……there are some areas I refuse to go into after it STARTS getting dark and there are areas I refuse to go into even in the DAY TIME. And they are ALL on the Southside.
@August West- Mr. Thompson is right.
@August West- I hate to inform you, but Garrett Thompson is right.
Apparently August West has been an idiot longer than Mr. Thompson.
Apparently, Mr. Thompson has been an idiot since 1971 and is proud of it.
There is some really eye-opening stuff in this comment section. I’ve lived on the south side for eight years and haven’t had any issues. Maybe, go out and talk to people instead of assuming half the city is terrible.
They have no problem putting up liquor stores and smoke shops. A decent grocery store or fish market would reduce complaints of outsiders sucking the economic blood of the neighborhood.
Thanks TR
South side. Enough said.
I’ve lived in Tallahassee since 1971, and it was well known then (as it is now) that you do NOT go south of Tennessee Street after dark.
Kids in College Town: Stay west of Railroad Ave after dark, but keep your eyes open.
Chronic complainers will whine that the Southside is being “neglected” and abandoned because merchants like this continue to flee. Look to yourselves, folks–you’ve created the crime-ridden environment that has caused it to happen. If you think you’re entitled to tax dollars to bail you out, you’re wrong. Spend your own time, money, and energy getting your kids educated, motivated, employed, and useful members of society. And get rid of your city and county representatives who say otherwise. They are wrong, too.
Braum needs to contact one of Tally’s small business support organizations. Relocate on Gaines St. aka FSU’s -Hollywood Dr. And watch the students line up for a dog and fries. The local business model is — go where the City makes it safe.
sad.
city should buy and bulldoze everything from Cascades highway crossing all the way to the new urgent care on both sides of monroe and make into part of Cascades.
