Despite challenging circumstances related to air carriers, the Tallahassee International Airport reported a 12.9% growth in passenger traffic in 2024 when compared to 2023. There were 965,921 passengers in 2024, an increase of approximately 110,000 passengers over the 2023 count of 855,568.
On Tuesday, the Leon County Commission voted 5-2 against a Capital Area Justice Ministry (CAJM) proposal that would reallocate 20% of the County’s portion of the Blueprint infrastructure surtax to establish an “Affordable Rental Housing Land Acquisition and Leaseback Program.”
The Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) recently completed multiple investigations into drug trafficking and related crimes. TPD reported that a series of search warrants over the past two months resulted in arrests, drug seizures and illegal firearms confiscations.

Last night a regional American Eagle plane en route from Wichita, Kansas, reportedly collided in mid-air with a military helicopter as it was landing at Washington, DC’s Reagan National Airport. At least 64 people were onboard the plane, which crashed into near-freezing water in the Potomac River. No survivors have been found from either aircraft as of early this morning. My last three years with the Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Control, I investigated near misses, crashes and other failures of the air traffic control system. Rest assured, the FAA completed its initial investigation last night and they have a real good idea what went wrong.
You have heard the saying, “the difference between night and day”, working in a control tower at night and flying at night ain’t the same as during the day.
