On Jan. 31, the Chiles Timberwolves (14-2) hosted the Mosley Dolphins (15-3-2) at Stan Goldstein field for the 5A District 2 final.
During the first half, both teams were having trouble on offense and were not able to create many scoring opportunities. The runs that did look promising were ultimately stopped by each teams keeper. While Mosley seemed to have the momentum during change of possession, Chiles was getting their best looks from set pieces, most notably corner kicks. Both defenses held strong and went into halftime scoreless at 0-0.
As the second half started, Chiles looked more aggressive on offense and started getting much better chances than in the first half. It did not take long until one of those chances connected with the back of the net as Addison Kantor (Sr.) made contact with a well timed cross putting the ball into the top right corner of the net giving Chiles a 1-0 lead.
The Chiles offense struck again with just above 10 minutes to go in the second half on a fast break run with a through ball from Jada Bartusek (Jr.) finished by Cadence West (Sr.) to expand the Timberwolves lead to 2-0. While Chiles’ defense was trying to keep the shutout alive, Abby Griffin (Jr.) delivered the dagger with a rebound goal with under 2 minutes to go in the match that would ultimately lead to a Chiles district title as they beat Mosley with a final score of 3-0.
