LOCAL NEWS

On Tuesday, the Leon County School Board will consider a new policy related to public speaking at Board meetings. The policy revision was driven, in part, by a legal case involving a Mom’s for Liberty lawsuit in another Florida school district.

The Gadsden County Sheriff’s Office says the suspect accused of shooting four people, leaving two of the victims dead during a robbery at the Mobil station on Pat Thomas Parkway in Quincy last week, is 44-year-old Dominic Caroway of Avondale, Arizona.

On Tuesday, February 11, the Leon County Commission will vote to add new strategic initiatives to their mission following an open discussion among elected officials and staff at the recently concluded annual retreat. The new initiatives include focus on high profile challenges related to pedestrian safety, the Miccosukee Road Greenway Trail flooding, the Children’s Services Council, and graffiti.

After a special session late last month spiraled into a clash between Republican legislative leaders and Gov. Ron DeSantis, Florida lawmakers will meet in another special session this week to pass a package of bills targeting illegal immigration — with DeSantis’ support.

A federal appeals court will not reconsider an opinion last year that sided with the Florida High School Athletic Association in a long-running dispute about a blocking a Tampa Christian school from offering a prayer over a stadium loudspeaker before a high-school football championship game.
