On Feb. 13, the Florida High Seminoles took on the South Walton Seahawks in the first round of the FHSAA 3A State Tournament in Tallahassee. Florida High came into the game as the 4th seed and Fort Walton was seeded right behind them at 5.
During the first quarter, both teams were having trouble getting anything going on offense. Florida high found a little bit of rhythm making two threes at the end of the quarter going up 15-6. It continued to be a low scoring game in the second quarter as the Seminoles implemented a full court press limiting Seahawks to 15 points in the first half. The Seminoles led at halftime, 24-15.
The momentum flipped in the second half as South Walton started shooting much better than in the first half. The Seahawks took a 2-point lead with just over 3 minutes to go in the game. Florida High couldn’t convert on their last couple of offensive possessions and lost with a final score of 44-42.
Although the Seminoles’ season came to an end quicker than expected, the team found success winning the 3A District 2 championship in convincing fashion and being ranked in the top 100 teams in the state, according to MaxPreps.
Notable Statistical leaders for Florida high on the season include Christal Collins (Sr.) with 302 points, Tori Davis (Sr.) with 230 rebounds, Traniha Jackson (Sr.) with 79 assists and Christal Collins with 85 steals.
