Rickards Girls Basketball Advances to 4A State Semi-final

On Feb. 21, the Rickards girls basketball team played Bishop Kenny in the regional finals of the FHSAA 4A state tournament. Because Bishop Kenny was the 1 seed and Rickards was the 2 seed, the Raiders played the regional final game away.

Although Rickards got off to a slow start in the first half, putting up only 10 points on the Bishop Kenny defense, the Raiders defense helped keep them in the game by only giving up 16 points. The Raiders went into halftime down 16-10.

During the second half the Raiders offense got off to a much better start than in the first half scoring 13 points in the third quarter. The Raiders defense continued to play well and held off the knights in the second half to win the regional final 39-31.

Notable performances from Rickards included Genesis Henry (Sr.) leading the team with 18 points and Amirahs Hayes (Jr.) with 11 points.

With this win, Rickards will face off against American Heritage in the FHSAA 4A state semi-finals on March. 3.
