Leon County Teams Compete in State Wrestling Tournaments

On Mar. 6, three Leon County boys wrestling teams participated in FHSAA State Tournaments. Lincoln and Chiles competed in the 2A class while Florida High competed in 1A. Each team had at least two wrestlers place (top 8) in their respected weight class.

Also, on Mar. 5, the girls FHSAA state tournament took place and featured two wrestlers from Leon County schools that placed in the top 8 of their weight class.

Lincoln

There were only two wrestlers from the Leon County area to bring home a state titles this year, and they both came from Lincoln. Those wrestlers include Joe Tucker at the 113-weight class and Sayuri Caceres at the 100-weight class.

As a team, Lincoln boys wrestling placed 9th out of 65 teams with a total score of 62 points in the 2A FHSAA state tournament .

Lincoln’s Joe Tucker (47-7) was one of two wrestlers from Leon County to place first in his/her weight class. Tucker won the state title in the 113-weight class by way of a 6-0 decision. Other notable Lincoln wrestlers that placed include Brady Jackson (27-6) placing 2nd in the 138-weight class and Ryder Luck (35-3) claiming 3rd in the 285-weight class.

On the girls side of the FHSAA state tournament, Lincoln wrestler Sayuri Caceres (37-5) won the state title in the 100-weight class beating Kiera Partello by way of a 6-4 decision in the first-place match.

Chiles

The Chiles boys wrestling team placed 29th out of 65 teams with a team score of 17 points in the 2A FHSAA state tournament. The Timberwolves had two wrestlers place including Jason Marsala (50-13) placing 8th in the 106-weight class and Jacob Johnston (43-11) also placing 8th in the 150-weight class.

On the girls side, the Timberwolves had one wrestler place (top 8) during the FHSAA state tournament with Kelsey Marschka (36-6) placing 7th in the 140 weight class after winning the 7th place match with a 14-7 decision.

Florida High

Florida High was the only Leon county school competing in the 1A FHSAA state tournament for boys wrestling. The Seminoles placed 16th out of 70 teams while having two wrestlers place in the top 5 of their weight class individually. Jasper Croom placed (52-6) 5th in the 132 weight class while Keaton Ellis (55-8) placed 4th in the 144 weight class.
