The recently released agenda for the April 16th city commission meeting indicates that city staff “does not recommend initiating an eminent domain lawsuit to acquire the private property owned by Circle K Stores, Inc., located in the Canopy development.”

At the April 8 Leon County Commission meeting, elected official, citing safety concerns, voted to implement an automated speeding detection and enforcement programs within school zones. The approval directs staff to “initiate the program by drafting an ordinance for the Board’s consideration at a future public hearing.”

Florida last week had its largest number of first-time unemployment claims in two months. The U.S. Department of Labor on Thursday estimated 6,510 initial claims were filed in Florida during the week that ended April 5, up from a revised count of 5,587 during the week that ended March 29.

The Florida Senate on Wednesday passed its version of the state budget for the 2025-26 fiscal year, approving the General Appropriations Act in a 98-6 vote and agreeing to proceed to conference negotiations.

NATIONAL NEWS

The Trump administration’s antisemitism task force aims to pursue a consent decree with Columbia University as a condition of restoring $400M in annual funding. A consent decree would give a federal judge the responsibility to oversee changes at Columbia and may last for years. The report follows a turbulent month at the school, where its interim president—who took over in August—resigned a week after conceding to administration demands.
