Chiles Flag Football Team Advances to Regional Semi-finals

On Apr. 24, the Chiles flag football team (12-4) hosted Navarre (10-7) in the first round of the FHSAA 3A regional tournament. This was the second meeting between these two teams this season with Navarre beating Chiles 15-6 earlier in the month on Apr. 3.

This time around Chiles got revenge on the Raiders winning with a final score of 13-6 and advancing to the regional semi-final on Apr. 28 against Fleming Island (12-3).

Although both teams were scoreless in the first quarter, the Timberwolves struck first with a touchdown throw to Charlotte Reynolds (Jr.) from quarterback Kendall Sadberry (Fr.) to put Chiles up 6-0 with around four minutes to go in the first half. Navarre answered with a touchdown of their own in the last minute of the second half making the score 6-6 as the teams headed into halftime.

Early in the second half, Navarre was picking up momentum on the offensive side of the ball until Chiles defender Addison Kantor (Sr.) made an interception to keep the game tied at 6-6 with seven minutes left in the third quarter.

As they entered the fourth quarter both offenses were having trouble finding the endzone. The momentum swung back in the Timberwolves’ favor after another interception by the Chiles defense made by Charlotte Reynolds.

Shortly after this defensive play Chiles wide receiver Kyndal Smith (Sr.) caught a touchdown pass from Chiles quarterback Kendall Sadberry to put the Timberwolves up 13-6. The Chiles defense held on in the last seconds of the game to advance to the regional semi-finals.

In other flag football news, Florida High (13-3) advanced to the regional semi-finals after a dominating performance against Andrew Jackson (8-10) which ended in a final score of 46-15. The Seminoles are set to play Suwannee (11-7) on Apr. 28 in Tallahassee.
