On Monday, LCSO released the details related to the arrest of an individual for firing shots at a dog that allegedly bit the shooters child.
The incident took place on Saturday afternoon in the Glen at Golden Eagle, a Northeast Leon County neighborhood.
The press release stated that, “upon arrival, deputies made contact with the dog’s owner, who reported that their pet had run out of the house unsupervised and approached the suspect’s daughter. The suspect, John Pender, then discharged a firearm at the dog. The pet owners secured the dog inside their vehicle at their residence. Pender then opened the door of the vehicle and fired one more shot, striking the dog.”
LCSO arrested John Pender for Armed Burglary of a Conveyance, Aggravated Animal Cruelty, and Child Abuse (causing mental distress). The arrest happened after Pender pursued the dog – after the encounter with his daughter and entered dog owners’ property where the shooting took place.
The LCSO release noted that the at this time the shooters daughter did not “appear to” suffer any injuries.

I agree with lance above, he’d be gone. But since he’s not id file charges of trespassing, breaking into my car, armed assault, attempted murder and do on with all the other charges, and like his family would do, a civil suit for damages, therapy, whatever else a lawyer could dream up. Y’all slamming a 60 sec report, no his child wasn’t injured, he shat the dog once in the leg as he was chasing it thru the yard with kids and adults all around in a neighborhood, then trespassed onto the dog owners property with a gun in hand screaming and swearing and went into their vehicle where the injured dog was contained and shot the dog again thru the chest. The breed doesn’t matter though it was a lab like 7 years old, 90% blind , never been aggressive, it doesn’t matter but he lives next door, just like it don’t matter his breed of blackness though very obvious

The Armed Burglary charge was dropped and bail was set at $2,500 per charge. My guess is he’ll get a public defender and maybe in two years face a jury.
Let’s all hope the child and animal abuser spends a long time in prison. Nothing happened to his daughter now he’s going to prison for being stupid… If you are going to be stupid you better be tough.
That has got to be the worst “news release” I have ever seen. Does Mr. Pender live there? Was Mr. Pender protecting himself? or the little girl? Did the dog attack the little girl? On whose property was the girl and the dog when the dog attacked the girl? Where was the dog when he fired at it? You sort of left out ALL the important information in your “news release”. Pathetic.
