LOCAL NEWS

During the May 8th Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency (IA) budget workshop, elected officials approved a plan to fund an air service incentive proposal. The IA voted 10-2 to approve a plan via an expedited process that would cost $670,000 per year.

The man accused of opening fire last month at Florida State University, killing two people and injuring six others, has been released from the hospital. Officials say 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner has been transported to a detention center in Wakulla County, where he is awaiting his first court appearance.

Tallahassee NAACP President Adner Marcelin, 37, died this week. The organization issued an announcement Friday.

Adner Marcelin was President of Tallahassee NAACP, a former Tallahassee City Commission candidate, and worked for Civil Right Attorney Ben Crump for over 10 years.

LOCAL SPORTS NEWS

The Lincoln baseball team (24-10) played a three-game series against top seeded Niceville (28-6) in the 5A Regional 1 finals on May 7, May 8 and May 10. After a close loss for the Trojans in the first game, Lincoln finished the series with two straight wins advancing to the state semifinals.

FLORIDA NEWS

As legislative leaders try to restart the budget process, Gov. Ron DeSantis indicated Monday he has no desire to take part in a sit-down suggested by the state Republican Party to hammer out differences.

NATIONAL NEWS

The US and China agreed to a 90-day pause on most tariffs yesterday, easing tensions in the ongoing trade dispute between the world’s two largest economies. Under the deal, the US will reduce its tariff on Chinese goods from 145% to 30%, while China will lower its tariff on American imports from 125% to 10%. The deal aims to allow further negotiations, with President Donald Trump expected to speak with Chinese leader Xi Jinping this week.

President Donald Trump is in Saudi Arabia today, the first of three stops on his Middle East trip. The visit marks Trump’s first overseas trip of his second term, excluding a visit to Italy earlier this month to attend the late Pope Francis’ funeral.
