I’d be a whole lot more accepting of the red light cameras (which should only operate during the times of day when children are going to and from school) if the huge amount of money collected went to the schools where children are being protected rather than other entities.
No, I don’t support cameras. We’ve seen the red light camera timings jiggered to maximize revenues in crazy California.
Regarding the poll on speed limit enforcement.
There are so few police on routine patrol these days that it has to be asked, “what are they doing with their time?” Even routine traffic accidents get a “Community Support Officer”, not a policeman. Putting cops back on the street will help get people to drive more sanely, including the exorbitant number of red light runners that we have.
And much of this would be solved by traffic light timing that made sense. Instead of metering traffic, flow traffic in the dominant direction. Better timing would greatly decrease the wear-and-tear on brakes. With more than a million total brake applications just during quitting time traffic it has to be asked how many brake jobs, per day, are a result of the ineffective timing. And since we’re well into the “conserve fuel” era, how much gas is needlessly burned just because the traffic department doesn’t understand the middle-school math of Rate*Time=Distance?
I’m thinking Matlow will wimp out and not register. Daily will beat him easily, I’m wanting to know more about Camron Cooper.
