The Leon County Commission debated and passed, in a 4-3 vote, an across-the-board 5% employee pay increase, a decision that will cost $1.4 million. Chairman Brian Welch characterized the vote as “bad fiscal policy” due to concerns about future financial sustainability. (@ -36:25)
The Leon County Commission voted to form a 21-member Citizens Charter Review Committee for the 2026 election cycle. A key 4-3 vote allowed commissioners to generate issues for the committee themselves, rather than relying solely on citizen-driven topics. (@ -33:05)
City Commissioner Jack Porter continues attend conferences hosted by Local Progressive, a left-wing group with radical ideas related to law enforcement. (@ -9:45)
Isn’t the County (and City) Commissioners supposed to handle citizen-driven topics? Why do you need a 21 Person Review Committee to do that and why do you need to generate issues for them. It sounds like you just need to have Weekly Meetings instead of meetings twice a Month.
If Jack Porter is not using a single Dime of Tax Payers Money to attend those conferences and doesn’t miss any Commission Meetings because of them then, fine, let her go, she will get herself Voted out soon enough.
I would really like to see a 5% raise for County employees. I think they actually work more efficiently than the city employees.
Having said that, I trust our County Commissioners to make wise fiscal decisions based on the financial reports they have inf ront of them in order to make those tough decisions.
Maybe I’m just burned out on citizen review boards. We elect folks to make decisions for us. So, elected officials, make decisions.
Review Boards always seem to have an agenda…always asking for more tax dollars.
Elect the right people, trust, and hold them accountable to make decisions based on good fiscal policy.
The process will work if we elect the right people.
The Everglades has Burmese Pythons.
We have Jack.
The podcast is inconsequential. Get rid of that lunatic Porter. She’s an embarrassment.
The podcast had sloppy editing. Get rid of gaps.
Good idea.
